Tick season is about to begin

Spring is becoming closer and with that the ticks also begin to come to life. Therefore, it may be high time to make an appointment for TBE vaccination. For good protection, several doses against TBE, which is a tick-borne brain inflammation, is needed.

TBE stands for Tick Borne Encephalitis or in Swedish fästingburen hjärninflammation. TBE is a disease that infects by bites from ticks and is most common in southern and central Sweden. The disease can also be found in other places in Europe. TBE usually takes 1-2 weeks from the time of infection before illness occurs and can lead to varying severity in the disease. Severe TBE manifests itself as a brain inflammation with severe headache, confusion, high fever and from time to time cramps and paralysis with the risk of prolonged and permanent problems.

Vaccine against TBE provides good protection and are advantageously given during the cold part of the year to provide protection during the risk period during the spring and summer. We offer vaccine against TBE and for adolescents and adults, the basic vaccination is given in three doses with special intervals between doses. After that, refill doses is given at different intervals in order to provide a good protective effect.
